Event Description
Bring your family and friends to celebrate the Snow Moon with us! We'll wander through Riverside Park together to learn about all things light at night, from how we use night vision on the ground to the moon and stars in the sky. We will cover:

• How our eyes adjust to low-light conditions at night
• Animal eyes at night - owl eyes, animal eyes that glow, etc.
• Natural sources of light - full moon, stars, bioluminescence
• Light phenology related to February's full moon such as why it's called the Snow Moon, Eagle Moon, etc.

End your evening around a bright warm fire, where we'll sip a hot beverage and share what we noticed in the night sky and tell our own star stories!

Our goal is to not use flashlights due to how bright the full moon and streetlights will be. We will let our eyes adjust to nighttime vision and attempt to not disturb the animals we might hear or see around. Facilitators will have flashlights to demonstrate how light works.
