Event Description
(For adults) Join Luke Saunders, Forester and owner of Blue Heron Stewardship LLC, for hands-on training in chainsaw use, maintenance, and felling technique. Participants spend half the day in a classroom setting before heading outdoors to practice safe, comfortable, and productive chainsaw operations. Hands-on training gives participants the opportunity to fell at least one tree.  

This course is part one of a four level series through the Safety and Woods Working training program. Participants will receive a certificate of completion recognized by industry experts and agencies. 

Classroom learning topics include: personal protective equipment (PPE), body mechanics, chainsaw safety features, the chain and the cutter tooth, reactive forces, planning and executing tree felling, limbing, and bucking. 

Field Learning Exercises include: introductory bore cutting and open face felling.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment and lunch (not provided).
