Event Description
Immerse yourself within an interactive experience, learning about native plants in bloom and their identifying characteristics as well as animals, insects, fungi and everything in-between that thrive on them.  See examples of urban-friendly species compilations to add beauty and ecological value to your own landscape!  Along the way we will discuss some of Wisconsin’s natural communities present within our parks.

Event Description
(For everyone) Stroll with our Land Management staff to learn about late summer blooms, their identifying characteristics and ecological role within the landscape. Ecosystems and their community dynamics change season to season, year after year. This class will discuss the importance of these flowers, what visitors to expect at the blooms and how the plant community influences the dynamics of the park ecosystem. We will begin at the Urban Ecology Center building and walk on foot paths through the park natural areas. Participants can expect one and a half hours of walking. Paved routes are included for wheelchair accessibility.

Class topics:

• Summer blooming plants: Learn what is blooming and for how long.
• Fauna visitors: Understand the fauna- mammals, birds, and insects. Relationships that support and/or rely on these blooms
• Management activities: Learn what management is taking place on the land to help promote the flora and fauna discussed during the walk
