Event Description
(For everyone) In celebration of bird migration and conservation, the Urban Ecology Center’s Research and Community Science Team is hosting the 12th Annual Green Birding Challenge! This challenge involves teams competing to see who can find the most bird species in a morning. The challenge is unique in that all team-based counts are done without using any fossil fuels (no driving 100 miles to see a bonus bird). You can participate in this friendly challenge by putting together a team of birders and then choosing a challenge category. 

The Big Sit Challenge involves finding a location that you can walk or bike to and then sitting in a comfy lawn chair with coffee and letting the birds come to you (the challenge is in picking the best location). The Birding By Foot challenge involves hiking to and from the Center to build your list. Finally, if biking is your thing, join the biking challenge and visit hot spots around the city to build your list. For more information on the event, please visit our Green Birding Challenge page. Are you a serious birder? Register on this page for our 5-hour, competitive Soaring Eagle challenge. Just starting out, want to look for birds as a family, or just hang out? You'll want the noncompetitive, 3-hour Rockin' Robin Challenge (8:00a-12:30p). Both challenges include lunch.

Remember that teams are limited to four birders. The deadline to register and to be guaranteed a t-shirt is April 25 at 11:59pm.

If you sign up for a program and your plans change, we kindly request that you let us know at least 10 business days in advance so we have the opportunity to offer a program to others. We will provide refunds as follows: 10 business days or more: full refund, 5-9 business days: 50% refund, 0-4 business days: no refund.
